Access to Safe and Affordable Housing

Positive mental health is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stressors of life, relate to others, make healthy choices, and learn and work well. Unaddressed mental health problems can have a negative influence on the local economy, homelessness, poverty, workplace performance, safety, and interrupt the ability of children and youth to succeed in school. Communities prosper when the mental health needs of community members are met.

To promote positive mental health for all Sheboygan County community members, the Healthy Sheboygan County-Positive Mental Health Action Team (HSC-PMHAT) focuses on community-wide strategies to broaden access, decrease stigma, and increase collaboration.

Why is Mental Health a Priority for HSC?

Mental health was identified as the top health priority in Sheboygan County. Several key informants identified a lack of mental health professionals specifically for children and non-English speaking community members, wait times, and stigma as issues in Sheboygan County.
